I don't believe that any of us would want to hear this before a game, however, that doesn't mean that a coach, or an athletic director, will not try to broach the issue.

So we need a strategy. Maybe it's the silent treatment. Maybe it's a "Get out" and slam the locker room door. Or maybe it's something more tactful and professional.

No, it's not.

With very rare exceptions (paperwork), the official's locker room, as well as access to officials both on the way into, and way out of, the facility, should be sacrosanct and "off limits" to everybody.

No matter how I, or my partner, handles it, my assigner would get a phone call that night. Here in my little corner of Connecticut the assignment commissioner is the communication conduit between the officials and the schools (coaches, athletic directors) and the state interscholastic sports governing body (principals, school superintendents). Knowing my assignment commissioner (true gentleman, former teacher, former coach, former official) for forty years, I'm positive that he would want to know about this "inappropriate" behavior.
