Few plays (Video) from Stanford-North Carolina

Play #1 - Technical Foul on dunk

Play #2 - Spin move properly called.

Both good calls.

The travel was even a travel before the indicated moment (the yellow circle with "travel" on the screen) in the video breakdown. He caught it on his right foot and then hopped on his right foot. It was a travel at that moment. He then stepped with his left, then stepped again with the right. If the original hop hadn't occurred, the final step with the right would have also been a travel.

It's even a travel at the beginning of the move -- the pivot foot is lifted before the ball is released. I wouldn't expect that to be called, though.

And, my ears hurt from the announcers.

Both correct.

If your elbows bend and your body goes parallel to the floor while you’re grabbing the rim, you aren’t hanging for safety.

Dunkin' Donuts ...

Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) probably caused the NCAA and the NFHS to ban dunking in the 1960s, seemingly to prevent injury and equipment damage. In the mid 1970's dunking in college and high school games was made legal again. Shattered backboards by Darryl Dawkins in the 1980's and broken backboard supports by Shaquille O'Neal in the 1990s led to breakaway rims and backboard support specifications in NFHS high school games.

Is it time to ease up on the dunking rules again, or do thousands of bent and broken rims on playground courts all over America tell us to do so would be foolish?

He bobbles the ball before establishing a pivot foot, therefore his left foot is the pivot foot, not his right.

Not a travel.
