Question

Does anyone know how one goes about becoming a certified basketball scorekeeper? Do you have to become a basketball official first? Any links would be helpful. Thanks.

By the way, who usually keeps the book for college games?

1) Call the local school. There's no "certification" that I'm aware of.

2) Someone from the home school.

Join your local officials association. There you will be certified on how to officiate, but also learn the scoring and timing procedures. No one can time or score a game like another ref. That's for if you want to be certified. Then contact your local school or basketball club, and ask to score. Or you might be able to ref instead.

In TX, for high schools, no certification needed. I heard that NCAA Div I is beginning to require table staff be certified with a formal training program. Is that new? Recent?

I haven't heard anything about that, and I'm a member of a D-I table crew. Could you let me know where you heard this and any details you know?

Don't you hate guys who are jealous of guys with D-I schedules?
