Miss. St. - Liberty Vid Request
Mississippi St. - Liberty
13:28 left in 2nd half Blocking foul called on Liberty player in transition. Looks legal and then takes a step back into the restricted area. |

At 12 seconds left and again with around 10 seconds left in the game, same Liberty player is shooting free throws. All 4 shots were made, and with all 4 shots the shooter clearly stepped into the lane prior to the ball hitting the rim or even close to being 'in the cylinder'.
My 6th grade son asks, 'Dad, why do our free throws get wiped off if we step on or over the free throw line, but the college players can do it?" My reply, "No idea son, I have no idea." Is this another inconsequential play/game interrupter deemed by the NCAA men's side? Or maybe the rule is different from NFHS? |

The answer is simple, discretion or the official did not see it. Presuming the official did see it and passed on it, that leaves discretion as the answer. Officials use discretion aaaallllll the time. Your son's age might actually be a good one at which to explain discretion. |

I wish the first one was called. Then there would have been a huge outcry over the call. But, I bet the shooter would not have violated on the second one.;);)
