Free throw situation

My buddy text me this one and I wasn’t 100% sure. A1 shooting first of a 1-1. While first try is in flight, A2 pushes B2. How to proceed?

I told him I think you clear the lane, shoot the 2nd and then it’s B ball, but I don’t have a lot of confidence in that. We checked the casebook and couldn’t find a relevant situation.

If you don't have confidence in that, what is your alternative? Also, you never stated if the free throw was successful or not.

[NFHS]

If it's 1 and 1, the attempt in flight has to score in order to award A1 the second shot. In that case, the lane would be cleared. Play will resume in one two ways:

  1. B is in the bonus: B2 will then shoot 1 and 1 or 2 shots as appropriate.
  2. B is not in the bonus: B will receive a designated spot throw in at the out of bounds spot closest to the spot of the foul.
Hint: If you have the NFHS Case Book, check out the scenarios in 6.7.
