Usually if it's negative 30 or below with the wind chill, they will cancel here.

Amazing. We'd be hunkered down in our homes. Work closed. Schools closed. Water main breaks all over the place. etc.

Tip of the cap to you gentlemen!

PS - Supposed to be even colder here tomorrow, and my game, postponed from today, is rescheduled.....for tomorrow! Nice!!!

Same here. Unlike many officials, I like Saturday games because I don't have to deal with rush hour traffic.

I thought for sure my game yesterday would be cancelled because both schools' respective districts were closed due to the cold temperatures. Even my partner e-mailed me first thing in the morning saying he was waiting for what we thought would be an inevitable cancellation notice.

Instead, my assignor called me to say the game was still on. Apparently, both schools still wanted to play and the superintendents gave their approval. I let my partner know, and we officiated the game.

In a way, I'm glad we played because I know my assignors go crazy having to deal with rescheduled games and finding officials if the original ones can't officiate the makeup date.

Are games in Florida being cancelled since temps are in the 40's? I can hear the entire state crying as I type this.

Most schools were still on Christmas break...so, no, nothing being cancelled. Regardless, the only thing that cancels games in this state is hurricanes. I lost a middle school game in September for Irma. I worked a six team holiday tourney last week. It was in the 30’s when I left the gym...I don’t mind telling you IT SUCKED getting in a cold car. Hats off to you guys that put up with that crap all season.

Lost 2 games today due to bad weather....500 miles away

Got a cancellation email yesterday afternoon saying my games today were cancelled because the visiting team couldn't fly out due to fog on The Rock aka Kodiak Island here in Alaska.

Do you guys in the north and mid-west have these issues?

Schools in Maine budget three snow days each year. That's about the average.

Snow days are part of life here. I lost my games Thursday and Friday to postponements, but got a game today on 16 hours notice. That's our normal.

In N VA, we get three snow days/yr too.

Along with late school openings, we usually use our three days, and more, as we cancel school for a dusting, freezing rain, icy conditions, and even snow that doesn't materialize. This is the first time I can recall losing a game due to only the low temps.

Hopefully, the worst is already behind us for this season.......hopefully. :o

cancelled school-- but games were played

My local district cancelled school on Friday, but in fact held sporting events that night. The cancellation is because they dont want kid standing at bus stops in dangerously cold weather, but a night-time game is a different situation, optional for fans, and (presumably) athletes not walking to the venue.. so they held the contests.

SC Official Thu Jan 18, 2018 03:39pm

We got some snow yesterday and lots of districts decided to close or delay today due to fear of black ice.

It's in the 40s. They won't allow after-school activities if there's no school.
