Sure but...

Let's visit an extreme to illustrate. A1 has jersey with blood on it from his very bloody nose. Official directs A1 to leave game to rectify jersey. A1 returns with new jersey and blood soaked gauze stuffed in nose. Officials allow A1 to play. Seems a bit contradictory to me. Bloody jersey no, bloody gauze yes. Gauze come out of nose during action. Play is stopped and trainer, now getting gloves on, comes out to floor to get bloody gauze. A1 gets new gauze in nose and play continues. During next dead ball, A1 is seen adjusting now-bloody gauze with his fingers, potentially getting blood on them. During live ball, gauze comes out again and onto floor. Etc. Or, same scenarios but gauze is not bloody, however it continues to come out on floor during live action.

Too extreme? Probably, but where is the line drawn? I have seen both ends of it and every official treats the situation differently, all of whom dislike it.

If it continues to come out, that's a different scenario. Not everything can be covered in the rule book.

You're changing the situation. If it is visibly blood-soaked, I'm not allowing it.

How about this what if? Player A1, gets stabbed and is visibly bleeding, however he....really? Can't you just apply common sense when you officiate your game? The book isn't going to outline WHAT to do for every scenario.

And how big of a piece do you allow? I have seen games where a sizable piece of gauze then exited a player's nostril and sits on the floor. Disgusting.
As long as the thing is not bleeding, I guess I would not even notice or care.

It is a piece of cotton or fabric, why would I care how big it is if it is so that the kid can play? This is like worrying about how big a bandage is as well. I would not care.
