Michigan @ UCLA Play (Video)

This was shown on something else, so I wanted to bring it here.

What do you think about this play?

In my game, we're counting that and going intentional.

I don't work NCAA hoops, though.

I have the foul (with the left hand, about waist high) as before the "gather."

Subsequent "fouls" with the right hand and the left hand about shoulder height were after the gather.

The only difference in college is did he start his upward motion. I think most HS officials would have waved this off as well. ;)

I'm counting it.....then intentional.

The L looks like he's blowing his whistle on the initial bump from behind before the wrap up even happens.

Given that, I can understand how he ruled this before the act of shooting. That being said, I'm with Rich and Camron.

Im probably counting this at all levels. It was close and depends on what contact the official considered the foul.

If that's what he's calling, then I'm not sure how it's an intentional personal foul. It's either intentional (then that part is the foul) or it's a common foul followed by a technical or nothing for the subsequent wrap-up.

If this is the same play as on FB, there is a bump early that would be a common foul, and there is a wrap-up after the shooting motion begins that would be FF1 plus score the basket.

This is why you have a slow whistle. See all of the play and this call is easier to rule on IMO.

My thought, too. He committed to that early bump and waving off the shot, then decided to upgrade because of what happened during the shooting motion.

Rich is right, you either have the bump and nothing (I don't think I'd normally upgrade that wrap up if the ball was dead, but I'm not sure), or the basket and IF (FF1) here.

Sorry, I should said FF1 before - I know better.

Don't worry this is not Facebook, nobody here is that pedantic, I hope.
