Two of the officials working the WSU/Vandy game are showing very little hustle, taking their sweet time in getting to home position for the C.
|
Conversely, I thought the FGCU/FDU crew rotated waaaaay too much. They were hardly ever motionless. Looked like a carousel.

And he gets Stallings with a T that Breeding seemed to want to ignore. Stallings must have thought he was back on his court in Nashville the way he walked down the end line. Breeding (whom I only know from seeing him the tournament every year) gives off an air as if he doesn't want to be in Dayton. |

So you have no problem with picking 2 of the crew, seemingly at random, and saying they're probably the ones who look lazy.
No, I won't ban you for that, but I won't hesitate to tell you how incredibly stupid it is. |

As I see it my guessing who BNR is referring to in his post is no different than BNR saying he thinks one of the officials looks like he doesn't want to be there. How is what he wrote any different? Neither of us are ripping anybody, are we not allowed to share our opinion? |
You shared your opinion. I shared mine.
|
I liked the HC/Southern crew.

Driscoll
Has anyone seen Pat Driscoll this year? I haven't seen him at all and am just wondering if he is injured or something else.
|
Yeah he worked a Big 10 game a couple weeks ago, haven't seen him since though.

Was really hoping Winston Stith and/or John Moore would get a game this year. Both are local guys that I have met before.
Anybody know anything about them? |

UNI/Texas: Marques Pettigrew Cincy/St. Joe's: Mike Stuart Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk |
Doug shows was in a wreck and has been out a while, should be back next season.
Tom Eads is getting around just fine and has had a great season |

I guess I didn't watch as many games as I thought this year and he probably didn't work too many AAC games. |
I am at work and will not be able to update for several hours, sorry guys. I will get it done tonight!
|
Cleanup on aisle three.
Someone will not be around for the next week. |
Stith worked the final of the western athletic conference (wac) tournament but has not worked any other postseason tournament (ncca, nit, cbi, cit) since.
|
Would anybody like to pick a couple first timers for this weekend (reg. semis & Finals ) or will it be the same cast of characters......

Attention haters! Tom Eades working the Elite Eight.
|
What is the rule regarding officials that work the Final Four or the National Championship game? I thought I had read somewhere that if you work a Sweet Sixteen or an Elite Eight game, you are ineligible to work the Final Four or the National Championship. Maybe I'm wrong, are there any such restrictions?
|
The 10 will come from the 36 that worked this week.

I can pretty much guess at least a few of the guys that will be working next weekend. I'll be shocked if Higgins isn't. I'm hoping Kimble and Clark get a chance. |

Just for fun
I am going to guess 3 of these six.
Valentine Adams Wymer Natili Corbett Stuart My guess is Stuart Valentine Wymer |
In case some of you guys are not a part of Ben Hall's basketball referee Facebook group some guy there posted that he knows the 10 officials and said they are:
Mike Eades Tom Eades Tony Padilla John Higgins Michael Stephens Roger Ayers Jeff Clark Mark Whitehead Brian Dorsey Terry Wymer (rumored alternate) |
Wymer, Higgins, Stephens working Monday.
Dorsey's the alternate. |
My understanding is that the alternate is the alternate for all 3 games. Is that correct?
And does anyone know what the pay is for the alternate compared to the floor officials? |

So did the selection committee get it right ??????
|
I truly believe the committee got it right. All of these guys had games where they either just had to stay out of the way or had big situations and quietly along with professionally handle them and those situations correct.

Ok, not much to talk about so far. Relatively easy game to officiate thus far. Crew is doing well. Tom Eades almost got run over once going T to L while curling in at the endline. Glad that didn't happen.
So given the relative lack of anything to talk about in the officiating world, would anyone like to talk about the other thing I noticed in the first half, namely the glare on the court caused by the wrap-around scoreboard lights? I haven't noticed it as much in the beginning of the second half, so I'm wondering if it was a TV camera lens issue, or the court lighting was adjusted, or perhaps the high-gloss finish on the floor is becoming more dull? I'm thinking they increased the court lighting and dimmed the wrap-around boards. You'd think they would test this during shoot-arounds in the day or so leading up to the games. |

LOOK: Reflections on the Final Four floor had fans' rods and cones in fits - CBSSports.com I was actually in attendance last night and didn't notice it. Must of been the camera angles. |
There is only one official that has refereed a Final Four game in four separate decades. The answer might be surprising.

I shouldn't have had to, though. Silvester was local to me growing up. |
Fine official. I had to look it up too. :)

Bethlehem, PA. ?????? |
Question here for all those who have done games? Would you say making the call on the buzzer beater in a championship game one of the toughest(if not the toughest) because the call WILL determine a winner of the game(or have OT). Tonight's call was not that close but I'm wondering if thats a big worry, making a mistake on a call like that.
|
On this stage, if you think it through, not really. I'm not saying your hearth won't be beating fast but you have a gazillion angles and super-duper slow mo to get it right regardless of the call on the floor.
On another note, just think if it WAS waved off, I hoped they had some brooms handy. |
