Video Request - OSU @ MSU

2nd half, about 8:30 remaining. Blocking call as OSU player goes to the hoop. L makes the call from across the key. He looked a little unsure of himself as he made the call. Also looked like there was a whistle from C in this play.

Additionally, I believe it somewhere around 6-7 minutes left in the first half, MSU threw a pass into the post. Player who was receiving the pass was wide open. Appeared to travel before going up for the dunk. I'd be interesting in seeing that play again too.

I'd expect the NBA to call that one a travel. Pretty egregious miss, imo.

Second one, CC. Block.

Agree...left on the floor at that catch....steps to the right, then the left, then the right again. Such an obvious travel.

Block...camera angle is poor for judging it but it appears he was still drifting out into the opponent the entire time. Both the L and the C had blocks with the C having the best view....pretty sure that it was correct.

Yep, the C would have the best view of whatever movement is occurring by the defender to his right at the time of contact.

Unfortunately, the mechanics instruct us that this is the Lead's call as it is an outnumbered situation in transition, so the defender is automatically a secondary defender. Time to revise the mechanics!

There is nothing wrong with the mechanic. Lead has first crack, but that is not an absolute. It is pre-gamed in every college game that I do that if the Lead doesn't have a whistle the trail or C shall come in and get the call. We have seen plenty of video where side to side movement by the defender is only picked up by the end line camera.

In this case the lead did not have a good look because he wasn't all the way down the floor because of the quick steal.
