This is absolutely true.

Note, however, that 'flat front' in men's slacks does not necessarily translate to "flat." Non-pleated pants can and should still have a crisp crease.

I don't have a gut so I don't wear pleated pants. I know a lot of guys that don't have pleats, I also know chapters that require pleats. Personally I don't like them as I think they look worse than flat front pants.
