Exclamation One of the best will now take a rest

Joey Crawford announced he will be retiring after this season. Certainly he will be in the referee Hall of Fame. Possibly the highlight of his career was when he challenged Tim Duncan to a fight.

Villanova on Father's Day weekend. My dad lives 20 minutes from the campus. I get to go to camp and see my dad. I believe first time campers are 350 or 375. All camp fees go to charity, none of his observers get paid, and they're all NBA officials. Room for one night and meals are provided. Work Friday and Saturday.

I tout this camp regulary to anyone looking for a great instructional camp. With confidence I say APG will cosign my statement.

Should have been dropped back in 2000 when he pled in the airline ticket scam.

I don't recall that event but did you read the article? The dudes own accountant told him it was ok and the income was not taxable. Did Crawford do something worse?seems to me that was a case of a very overzealous prosecutors trying to make names for themselves bringing down someone with a known name.

Absolutely outstanding camp. Been there two years in a row...and absolutely recommend it to any official.

I also agree with BNR that Joe is an outstanding teacher. The guy is a literal well of information. 39 years officiating the top level of basketball will do that.

The MichiganHSAA held an multi-sport officials clinic the day before the NASO Conference in 2013. Joey Crawford gave the basketball officiating clinic. He was very good and very self-deprecating about himself and his officiating.

Sounds right....when doing a video session at his camp, first thing he'll do is bring up a clip where he F'd up.

I was in a three-hour seminar of his at the PIAA (Pennsylvania) convention a couple years back. Dozens of video clips, plenty where he made a mistake. I never heard anybody talk about officiating like he does; after a lifetime devoted to this he understands it like probably almost no one else. Amazing guy. I hope he gets healed up, goes out on top, and enjoys his retirement.
