That was an odd game

Had a girls varsity Friday night (3-person crew). One of the teams is historically bad, the other historically average. The bad team played much better...good ball handling skills, excellent ball movement, good spacing...but they couldn't shoot to save their lives. New coach and it is obvious he is "coaching them up".

The odd part? At the end of the first quarter the foul count to 1-0...at the end of the first half...2-2. As a crew, we ended up calling a grand total of 10 fouls. Now, we had travel violations and OOB calls so we were blowing our whistles...but 10 fouls.

In fact, at the end of the third quarter I had not called a foul...and I was looking for things to call. One of my partners wanted to see if I could go the entire game without calling a foul. I ended up calling three fouls, the first about half way through the 4th quarter. After the game my partner said he almost whacked the girl for making my call a foul.

Neither coach complained about not getting calls the entire game...in fact, both commented on how smoothly things were going.

Almost felt like we should turn down the fee. Notice I said almost...

FYI...you just doomed yourself to a foulfest where you shoot 75 FT next weekend. Have fun with that.

So...you sold the coaches foul insurance just prior to the game?

Best one that I've ever had:
BV game about 3 years ago.
18-minute halves (MN adoption)
First play stoppage (OOB) came at about the 13-minute mark.
First foul was called with 1:28 left in the first half.
2 fouls in the first half, 4 in the second half
2 free throws
One 30-second timeout called.
Both teams were content to play zone defense and take jump shots on offense.

Total game time:
54 minutes from tip to final horn.
Not bad considering that we need at least 46 minutes for the clock to run and for halftime.
