I had an official new to Texas ask me if the new rule applied to middle schools. It made me wonder do all rules that apply to High School apply to middle school. I told her they did.

In my area, FED rules apply to MS games unless the schools have agreed to modify them.

Thumbs up

I can't imagine any reason why a middle school would play by any other rules than NFHS, if the high schools in that state are playing NFHS. And I don't know of any state that doesn't play basketball by NFHS rules.

So, my guess would be, yes, they do.

Be sure she enforces the high school rule regarding hanging on the rim. I see that all the time in middle school games, especially girls games.

I think some middle school leagues use Federation with a change or two, such as a mercy rule, or no backcourt pressure or something else like that. My advice is to let the coaches argue it out, and whatever they agree on, that's the deal.

In Texas, any ball associated with TASO or UIL falls under the NFHS rules with the applied UIL rule changes and the TASO mechnic adaptions. If your in the Austin chapter things are a little different there right now from what i hear.

I've never heard anyone say different so I am sure it applies to middle school as well.
