Not sure how this happens at the professional level.

I'd like to say "it happens," but I was surprised when I saw the call. Obviously I'm only speculating but my guess is the official (Amy Bonner) just jumped the gun. It's a classic case of calling outside of your area and making a mistake. The play took place in the L's primary and he didn't have a whistle. The T was starting to move in transition as she made the call.

The game was called well as a whole, which makes that whistle so much more egregious.

Sometimes I think part of the problem is the WNBA officials are also high-level NCAAW officials. Not that they're not capable but they may be worn out. Upper level NCAA officials - women's and men's - work about as many games as NBA officials but in a much shorter time frame. There may be a little burnout at the start of the WNBA season before they get into a flow.
