I have had a defensive coach yell "Walk" as the pitcher goes to his stretch.

So a defensive coach yells Walk to his pitcher. What's the point here?

It's somewhat common at youth levels (or was when I did those levels). Doesn't often work there, either. ;)

To get the batter to relax perhaps? :confused: Otherwise, I have no clue.

And even if that was the case, nobody's going to convince me that the offense was hindered by this comment from the defensive coach.
