Killing the play

The other night I'm U3 and U1 is coming in on a play and gets hit by the ball and goes down in a heap.
I kill the play and leave B/R at first. Coach tries to get me to award the runner 3rd because he would have made it if the umpire never got in the way.
Next inning that coache's F4 gets hit by a ball and goes down like my partner did.
I award 1st base. Wonder if I was supposed to award third?
