The article said it was originally scored 3-6-3, but was later revised to 3-6-1.

And there was no umpire discussion? I guess the Mariner's manager was just too timid.

I think this was such an unusual play that no one would have thought this is actually what happened unless they saw the tape. That is why everything stood it appears.
