With three umpires and bases load, U1 is in "B" and U3 is in "D". With a right handed batter and a check swing appeal, who does the PU go to?

I cannot remember specifically, but believe in the past I have seen double-A minor league PUs go to U1. This year they have been going to U3, i.e. the "opposite" umpire rather than the one in the middle. Is that the norm?

SC Ump,
I don't get out much, but that sounds a little weird to me.
Maybe PU went to U3 because U3 was the Big Dawg.

Some leagues always go to the umpire on the line in this situation. (If both are on the line, go to the "open" umpire, of course.)

That's what I thought the first time I saw it, but it has been done multiple times this year by several different crews. I'm suspecting as Bob mentioned that it is standard for the umps in the Southern League, our local double-A minor league.

My personal opinion is that you can see it 'bout as good from one side or the other, but I was just curious if it was common. It sounds like it is not.
