Hmmmm well here in softball the batter IS out if he/she takes the bat all the way to first base. But this is Canada so everything is just different.

I'd like to say it's more that people, especially coaches, just do not know the rules but I have watched a coach argue a point one way one night then the opposite the next depending on which way he wanted the rule.

If they appeal at all three it would be a triple play. Add the out for stepping on home, and that's 4 outs. So by my accounting, the team starts the next inning with one out. Hopefully the batter didn't toss his bat after hitting the ball or the team might just have to skip the whole next inning.

A "lune", pronounced "looney", is an umpire that calls out the batter for stepping on the plate while hitting the ball.

Penalty: The whole teams gets to "moon" the umpire and he can't eject any of them.

But he didn't score. If this theory were true (which I don't think it is), it would be up to the fielding team to tag one of the bases to get the call...which they didn't do.

If this really is a rule, it's pretty stupid. ;) Still not certain of its legitimacy though.
