We have some reports in the early going of catchers having 2 pieces of proper equipment, i.e. the doulble ear flapped head gear and a NOCSAE mask, but of different manufacturer's, especially on the sub-varsity ( hand me down equipment) level. Both pieces need to be from the same manufacturer, correct? ( Were supposed to be tested together). All varsity catchers seen so far have been using the hockey style mask. ( FED. RULE )

You are correct
The FED's have informed ALL schools that use their rules that the COACH must present a report that shows that the two pieces of equipment have been tested and certified TOGETHER.
Our group has been told to NOT allow a "mixed" system to be used without the documentation. This is true at ALL levels that we work. Safety is safety . . . it doesn't change because it is a sub-varsity game. FED feels that three years notice is plenty for schools to have complied. Please ask someone "higher-up" in your group what you should do when presented with this challenge. (The Original & Ever Sliming) Tee |

At our state rules clinic (Washington both boys and girls) it was made very clear by the trainers that all levels of Fed would have to adhear to the requirement, so for us if it is not the same manufacturer with the NOCSAE stamp or the coach doesn't have the proper paperwork certifying a mask/helmet combination from different manufacturers it will not be allowed to be used.
