I got spoiled living near Honigs in Michigan. My crew wore the true stuff. I knew ahead of time Honigs was tired of the hassle and was going to be giving it up. Any word on who is going to do the stuff and are they changing styles AGAIN?

When I talked to them last fall they told me that the hassle was more trouble than it was worth. This years baseball catalog no longer has MLB merchandise and the website makes no mention of their doing the uniforms like they used to. So either they are not doing them or they do not want anyone to know they are doing them.

That's funny. My new catalog has the ML shirts listed and if you visit http://www.honigs.com/store/shop.mpl?Cat=19,40 you will see the ML shirts listed at their site.

True enough. However last year, they had the MLB logo on the front page and stated they were the makers of MLB uniforms. My catalog had ML style shirts but nothing with the logo like last year. The stuff online seems to all be on sale and no new items added this year. If they are making them, they are no longer selling the new items to the general public. I will be heading over there in a couple of weeks. I will find out what I can then.

Made my visit to Honigs. What I was told:
Honigs is manufacturing and supplying umpire shirts to the Majors. Honigs is supplying the pants but they are being made by Fech's. GB

Thanks Garth. Good info. I will have to stop up there and see if they have made any changes worth getting. As to the other "theory", My crew has not done a JV baseball game in 7 years. We do small college baseball and softball and travel for USSSA events. We have all been to the "schools" and have worked a few pro and semi pro games so the look works for us. If I was only doing JV ball, no I guess spending $240 on shirts like I did last year would not have been a good idea.
Honigs has treated me well ever since I started officiating as an 18 year old back in 91. I have never had to return anything and their equipment has never failed I have nothing but good things to say about them as do most officials who have dealt with them. |

I don't doubt that some people feel the way that "theory" assumed. It's just that it is not the reason for why Honig's is doing business the way it is. When you check in with Honigs you may learn additional information as I did. But hopefully, if you do, you will treat as I have and respect their wishes that it not be broadcast on the internet. Bottom line: Honigs remains connected with MLB as their supplier of uniforms. The "why" is their business.
