Welcome and enjoy your stay. What levels of ball do you work?

I started as a softball umpire way in the late 90s and have progressed through T-Ball to the bases of Men's Amateur baseball. They won't let me have a plate yet.

Why on Earth won't they let you work the plate? After all, it is a bunch of has-beens, wannabes, and never-weres trying desperately to hold on to their youth by trying to pass what they are doing off as playing baseball.

Congrats Mary Ellen, enjoy the stay.

How do you guys down there in Florida handle the humid days on the field?

Welcome to the forum! No plates, huh? Are they afraid of hurting the girl or don't they trust your judgement? We have several young ladies in our HS Association who work Varsity and down during the season and Adult and down during the Summer. They are all well trained and properly equipped (umpire gear wise for you perverts) so it's no problem for them to work the plate. Also, they have established themselves as good umpires who do not take any crap. Keep plugging, Mary. Hopefully, someone will realize that you have just as much talent as the males you work with.

Tell 'em you WANT to do the plate! Then tell 'em to pay attention and they might learn something! Then go out there and hustle, have fun, and do your job.

Personally, I think the plate is easier than bases.
