Pitcher - sunglasses & glove
1. Can a pitcher wear sunglasses? I've consulted many experienced umps in my area, I've received different answers? I know they can't be reflective, we all agree on that.
2. Can a pitcher use a first baseman's mitt? 3. Can other fielders use a first baseman's mitt? 4. Are the rules for OBR & Fed the same in these situations? We've read OBR 1.12 to 1.14, get different interpretations:confused:. |
Why shouldn't a pitcher be allowed to wear sunglasses? How is a pitcher different then other fielders?
When the pitcher is on the rubber, the rules dictate his body movements not his eyes. (i.e. the rules dictate, stepping to a base prior to releasing the ball, movement of his feet to step off the rubber, etc) No where do I see anything with regards to his eyes. I think the rulebook is fairly clear that no one other then the first baseman can use a "first baseman's" glove. |

That may be so, in Canada we use OBR, so I'm not familiar with the details of the FED rulebook. |

An umpire can determine if something is a distraction. That is all you need to worry about. When asking, and answering questions, it is best to reference the rules set that is being questioned (answered). T |
