Missed-base appeal -- does first run count?
OK, runners on second and third. Two outs. Double to left center.
Runner from second misses third. By a lot. Called out on appeal after play ends. Our umpire said the first run -- the runner who was on third and scored long before the appeal -- did not count. I say it does -- the appeal out should not be treated like a force-out, which clearly would make the first run not score. Help, please!!!!! Even our league president didn't know the rule. |
You are right.

Please make my day, and tell me you protested this misapplication of the rules.
I'm begging you, I just worked a looooooong solo game by myself, with a boorish Mom bellowing in my ear all night. Just do me this one favor, and tell me the manager had the brains to just say "I'd like to protest that ruling". |
not the boss
sorry, it was not my decision...so we did not protest. played lousy anyway and probably deserved to lose.

assuming the run scored before the appeal, ask yourself this question:
was the appeal base a force base? Yes, no run scores No, run scores keep in mind if you have multiple possible appeals, a fourth out appeal may occur as well... |
