Jim Wolf's Black Shirt
Watching the Phillies/Cardinals on FOX yesterday. I noticed that Jim Wolf, the PU, was wearing a really nice looking, short sleeve black uniform shirt that was different in that it featured a half-zip instead of buttons, and had no stripes on the collar or sleeves. Does anyone know who makes this shirt and more importantly, where can you get them? I think it looks really sharp, much sharper than the black with white stripes does.

Thanks. They look pretty good tucked in and without the long sleeves. They still look hideous untucked and with long sleeves.
|
Not a fan of them on the plate guy without the sleeves. They look okay on the bases, sleeves or not.
|
I think that Wolf is the first guy I have ever seen that makes it look halfway cool. I'm with Steve on this one.
Untucked, it looks like something I wear to pitch batting practice. |
The only person I have seen wear a zip up shirt is this umpire:

Neat. Short sleeved jackets. What's next? Long sleeved cream shirts?
Oh yeah. http://www.theofficialschoice.com/Pr...eamLSLarge.jpg |
I think I'm going to get some base pants tailored into shorts.
Should be a good look. |

Count me as one of the few, if only, umpires who thinks those half-mock-convertible-zip up-removable-sleeve-thingies are just hideous period. The short-sleeve black shirt, long-sleeve black shirt, and jackets with the stripes on the shoulder were just fine.
I wouldn't doubt it if Dick Honig convinced MLB to use these so Dick could dream up and manufacture yet another article of uniform attire that everyone will then consider a "must buy." :D |

Poll: Long sleeve shirt only behind the plate or can be worn also on the bases?

I'd wear a plate coat, but unfortunately neither of mine fit (they are too big). I've ALWAYS hated windbreakers on the plate and I love the long sleeves. On the bases, no. Then I wear a jacket. That said, I'm willing to sell them to a good home. Navy size 48 Fechheimer -- bought 1997, in outstanding shape. Black size 50 Honig's - bought 2005, good shape. If anyone has a 42/44 short.... :D |

I can't recall wearing long sleeves on bases. Jacket or short sleeves is norm.
Long sleeves is standard for me when cool behind the plate, <60, add another layer when it gets colder. Jacket behind plate would go with another layer and would have to be 45 or less. If I had a plate coat I would wear it, but alas... |
If it's cool, long sleeve shirt is my first choice. If not, then a jacket, although I don't care for it as much. Never a long sleeve on the bases....always the jacket.

Umpire? Is he really ????

Have watched parts of this guys vids.....but had to turn them off. Did you notice the hat turned round backwards? that is what he does before he puts on his mask. Guess he is a "Big Dog" where he comes from.......???? |

By Crackie! I think you have hit on it!!!! :D :(!!! |
Why wouldn't you wear a long sleeved shirt on the bases? I do it, when sometimes a jacket is too much.
(and don't give that @#$% about MLB guys don't do it. Think for yourself.) |

Bases - Jacket or Short Sleeve Shirt - no long sleeve. No "smock" or half-zip/convertible jacket either. Ugly! |

Honig's Canada was the last I saw MLB logo shirts for sale to the public. |

I haven't worn a jacket on the plate since I picked up my long sleeve shirt. Quote:
The umpires in the AAA PCL have worn Honig's since at least 2001. |

MiLB switched to Honig's after +POS started having trouble and finally went out of business. |

When I got there, it was 27°F , with a wind chill of 9°. It was snowing/sleeting with winds gusting to 50 MPH blowing straight in from center-field. Carl, Julian's head coach, after he got finished laughing at me for not having a jacket, loaned me one of his team jackets (a fuschia/gold combo), and I went to work behind the plate.:o Carl continued to remind me of that day for the next 15 years whenever I worked any of his games. You really can surf in the morning and snow ski in the afternoon here in southern California. |
Hell, you can do that HERE in Chicago without having to travel! :p
FYI, July 2009: the coldest July ever in Chicago history. |

Why not? I've done it. Not that it matters to me, but I've seen a D1 crew do it.
Y'all need to get away from this mentality. Wear what looks good to you, and stop goosestepping to what your "heroes" wear. More often than not the only taste those guys have is in their mouth. Example: Smocks http://static.squidoo.com/resize/squ...5939umpire.jpg |
I like those "smock" jackets only in long sleeve form, and not 2 sizes too big.
They used to not be convertible back when they were first introduced years back, but then they were modified as you see them today. |
They're just plain ugly. Yuck.
|
First time I saw one of these jackets was at one of my son's games. (Mens league)
I thought the base umpire was just wearing one of his regular jackets and it made him look unprofessional and sloppy. In my opinion, it went along with wearing his crotch halfway to his knees. Rita Quote:
