Changing a "Foul" call ?

Wanted to get some of you guys opinions on this sitch.

R1 and R2,
Both runners running on the pitch, the ball is foul tipped and the catcher proceeds to throw the runner out at 3B. Umpire called foul ball on the foul tip (which we all know is a live ball),

If no-one reacted to the foul call, in what rule sets do we change the "foul" call?

I believe in LL and OBR the out stands, "we unring the bell"

In FED we have no choice but return R1 and R2.

In a FED game, what would you do in a case where it was the third strike?
Do we return runners and let batter continue?

Cool

bigda65,

Why do you think you can't change it in FED?

FED says you can't change an erroneous "FOUL" call on an uncaught batted ball. Since this is a foul tip, it is, by definition, "caught".

If nobody reacted, disregard the erroneous foul call.

Bigda65,

Sure. FED 2-16-1e:

Quote:
...A foul is a batted ball:
...
e. that touches the ground after inadvertently being declared foul by an umpire.
I would guess the author was not contemplating a foul tip when he wrote this, but, who knows.

then it wouldn't be a foul-tip once it hits the ground...right? or are you referring to an umpire or "the umpire" who calls a "fout-tip" a foul ball as the OP states?

I interpret it similar to the FED interp of the Infield Fly rule...where the players and coaches are responsible for knowing the rule...the umpire isn't even required to call IFF...while it's probably not a good idea nor look very good...it's not a requirement...unless PU or BU goes out of his way to call it foul and it stops play...well, then we eat it and it's foul. Which would be differnet from IFF.
