This one is screwy. There is nothing wrong with what you did. I have no idea where the opposing coach was coming from, but I do get a general kick out of it when coaches make up new rules on the diamond. The next time one of their runners scores call time and appeal based on the fact that the third base coach told him to go home. LOL

The call did not get overturned did it?

BTW - You said that the ball was dead. Was it dead or did the action simply stop? "Dead ball" has a very specific connotation to umpires, and I did not see anything in here that would indicate a dead ball.
