Minor 2009 MLB Uniform Change
Watching a local spring training game this afternoon on TV, I noticed that the numbers on the "polo" blue alternate uniform tops now have black numbers.
Found this image on Flickr of Golden Baseball League Umpires: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1273/...45ab6570_b.jpg Yes - I know this is slightly a jock sniffing post. |

That coach in the red blasted 414 homers in the big leagues, and was the first man to blast 40 or more in a season in both leagues. |
Pete I?

Looks like Darrell Evans to me...
Lawrence |
That is Darrell Evans.
Inky, though, (since his name came up) is credited with the #1 all-time baseball quote IMHO. When the players were on strike, many fans commented on their perceived greed on the part of the players. Pete responded (paraphrasing): "The fans act like we're all a bunch of millionaires, when in reality a lot of us are making only five or six hundred thousand." |
That is a great quote.

I saw Don Sutton's 300th win, which was a complete game near-masterpiece against the Rangers in '86. The only blemish was this mistake fastball that he threw to Inky, one of the strongest men in baseball, and he put it into the great beyond in dead center. We were right behind the plate, and as soon as Sutton let go of the ball, you could hear Bob Boone yell, "$h!t" before Inky even hit it. Incaviglia was crazy strong.

Inky hit one so hard into the upper deck in left field I couldn't believe how fast the ball got there. Wow, could he hit em. |
SD Steve will appreciate this one:
In the final year of Tiger Stadium, they let fans come on the field post-game on Sundays. My brothers and I had upper deck seats about 250' down the RF line. Tony Clark hit one past our faces off the facing of the third deck. I said, "Whoa!" as the ball went by. After the game, we stood at home plate and I got a lot better look at how far away the facing of third deck is from home plate. My adjusted reaction was something like "HOLY &*&^%$#%^&#@#$%^!!" That moment gave me a new appreciation for the power some of those guys have. Even better was seeing the distances of the light tower that Reggie Jackson hit in the '71 All-Star Game, and the left field roof that Frank Howard nearly cleared when the Washington Senators pounded the Tigers 15-3 in the first major league game I attended. |

Hard to tell in ML umpires have made any change in their uniforms from this picture. In the real MLB #65 is Ted Barrett...that's not Ted Barrett. Those aren't ML umpires. |

The point is, why do you think that those are ML uniforms? |
The point is???
"Those aren't major league umpires" :D:D |
What is this, Point/Counter Point ? :D

Wow. My apologies to the posting community. Damn, now I have to change the "364 days without a mistake" sign in my office. |
MLB Umpires have adopted this change also...

Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, right, argues with plate umpire Brian Knight after a call in favor of the Colorado Rockies, Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, during their spring training baseball game in Tucson, Ariz. (AP Photo/Elaine Thompson) Looks like this change is for MLB umpires also. |
KF dump some messages in your storage so I can PM ya.
|

The original pic in this post is the plate meeting in a Golden Baseball League (GBL) game. This is a modified season independant league which has teams in Canada, Arizona, Utah, California and new for 2009, Mexico.

Wow! I'm sorry I missed that!
Cory Snyder was a stud. And he had a cannon! He was a huge part of the 1984 USA Olympic baseball team. I was at every game they played. Other big-leaguers from that team: Bill Swift, Bobby Witt, Barry Larkin, Odibe McDowell, Shane Mack, Chris Gwynn, Flavio Alfaro, Gary Green, B.J. Surhoff, Will Clark, and a guy named Mark McGwire. Snyder shared right with Shane Mack, and he shared third base with McGwire. Mac's Olympic coach was Rod Dedeaux, who was also his college coach, and he had him play third with Snyder and first with Will Clark. When Japan beat them 3-1, I hurled. Watching the wrong flag go up the flagpole and watching the wrong team jumping up and down on the medal platform made me as sick as any sight in baseball up until that point. It is now expected to see a team of U.S. professionals get beat by virtually any international professional squad, because baseball's a team sport and U.S. All-Star teams don't play like a team. But back then, they were all in college, and they looked unbeatable at every workout and in every game leading up to the final. It was unreal. |
Ozzy Guillen is a complete rat. Arguing in a spring training game for goodness sake!

Saw a distance shot of what could be the new jackets. It was on SportsCenter this morning when they were talking about A-Rod. The field umpires were wearing them. No stripes over the shoulders, with the MLB patch on the left chest. There didn't seem to be any coloring on the cuffs and I didn't see any body piping, like the zip-off jacket. The jackets seemed to be similar looking to the ones that they wore many years ago (Split league era) in blue.
Could also be something else, and my eyes were tricking me this morning |
The MLB guys received 3 new jackets from Majestic. All solid black. 1 is a heavy weight, waterproof shell...1 is a unlined jacket which the sleeves can be zippered off and the other one is just a basic jacket. Shirts stayed the same except for the #'s on the polo blue.

Thanks. |
Tony's son is Tony Jr.
His brother Chris was the left fielder on the 1984 Olympic team and had a couple of tours with the Dodgers and Royals and Padres at the end. He was mainly a pinch-hitter and backup left fielder, so Tony's son's better than his brother. Junior's a stud. I watched him work out at his dad's yard at S.D. State last year. |
