I know most of the umpiring community does not have to deal very often with the elements of 'scoring a game.' For most of us it's simply does not enter the equation very often. I am puzzled at the correct way to 'score' the following play. Any and all help is welcomed .... and thanks.

Situation:
Runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Batter hits a home run but runner on 2nd base is called out on appeal for missing 3rd base. No runs score. How do you score the batter. Fielder's choice?

I'd have to go to the books to check this but I think the batter get a single in this situation. No, on second thought the runner is forced out for the 3rd out, so the batter does get charged with a fielders choice.

You got it right on your second try. And R2 better keep going to his car and drive home in a hurry.

Two Set of Books

Having graduated as an accountant, I would have two sets of books. The first set of books would be the official score book which would reflect FC (with an asterik)for the batter's time at bat. However, when I would compile the team batting statistics (for the kids only) I would give the batter credit for the HR.
