I think Laz Diaz and Mike Reilly are two of the best umpires I have ever seen in person. Diaz, especially, takes an active role no matter what his position.

MLB would honor the umpiring profession by letting Bruce Froemming throw out a ceremonial first pitch in one of the games.

Not unless he won a Taco Bell promotion.

With a little luck I'll be on my way after I graduate in a year and a half. Sorry I'm not as ambitious as those Internet umpires like you.

This has got to also be one of the most racially diverse crews in MLB World Series history

3rd time a "minority" has worked the series, after Emmett Ashford and Chuck in 2004.

Ted Barrett speaks

Here's a link to an interesting interview with World Series ump Ted Barrett. He talks about how he got started, instant replay, and the McClelland call, among other things.

I despise links to sites that require one to register. If it's not viewable, don't bother posting a link.

As that poster, let me say yeah, me too, I agree. When I posted it, registration was not required, and I tried the link right after posting and it worked. When I try the link now, the website requires registration. But when I access the website's homepage from my favorite list, I get right in, no registration required. The paper's web editor tells me that registration is a longstanding requirement, but that maybe the registration threshold was changed recently. I'm guessing that we exceeded that particular article's maximum hits, but I've never had problems like that with other discussion group links.

I won't post a link to that paper again.

Registering is free and voluntary.

Keep those links coming, if you don't mind.
