Camps/Clinics around NC

Anyone know any good camps/clinics around NC? Because of a job change, I can no longer coach, so I'm moving into umpiring instead. I've done a couple years of rec ball to get some experience, but I know I need to get some coaching myself to get better.

Several years ago, I attended the Sunbelt Umpires Camp in Charlotte. It was run by Steve Spano. He usually has one or two Major League umpires and a staff of young guys just out of umpire school. It was a really good starter clinic. You will learn a lot and not spend a fortune. I would recommend it. You can google it and find out more information.

I attended Sunbelt Camp back in 89 or 90. It was my first camp. Rich Garcia was the MLB umpire lead for that camp.

The Southern camp is also relatively near to NC, in Atlanta.

I emailed Steve Spano, and received the answer that they no longer have the camp.

I would say that your two best bets are the Southern Umpires Camp in Atlanta or the Jim Evans Florida Classic in Kissimmee. I've heard good things about the Southern Umpires Camp and have been to Evans. I'd say from experience that what you get from Evans is a great learning experience at a reasonable cost.

The Southern Clinic is exactly what I'm looking for - thanks for the info.
