I am all for trying new things but what the mechanics do not address is the difference between wood vs. metal I do not know about you but I almost "bought the farm" a couple of times off of shots from a metal bat. I almost got hit the other night in fact. As a result I find myself setting up in a "deeper B and C positions" to give me a little more reaction time should an 18/19 yr. old get a hold of one. What I have seen "suffered" somewhat is the pick-off plays at first. If you are in a "deep B" it's difficult to get a REAL good angle on the pick-off at first and as a result the runner(s) for BOTH teams gain a slight advantage. In a nutshell what's your take on umpire mechanics when Metal is used as opposed to the traditional wood Thanks Pete Booth |
I went to a SAL league game back in May and I didn't see anything from a mechanics standpoint that appeared out of the ordinary. Sounds like this may be for recent PBUC grads (Garth probably will cover it in his articles).
Just wondering if they will re-write the red book if these mechanics are approved across the board? Lawrence |
