If the umpire sees the BR make ANY indication about proceeding to second base then the BR is at jeopardy of begin put out.

I would judge a rounding of first towards second as an indication of the runner attempting to proceed to second.

FWIW, a respected poster on another site reported that Jim was still teaching that, and when the MLBUM rulking was pointed out Jim responded "They're wrong".
