What is the basis of your disagreement? I know there are exceptions and that the person that taught me this was using a fairly broad generalization, which I accounted for by saying "with the exception". I know its over complicated, but as I said it was just a generalization.

If there are less than 2 outs and first base is occupied, batter is always out on third strike.

This is more to clarify for those non-umpires viewing this thread.

Appears that the catcher in my game last nigh (adult, wood-bat) knew this rule but forgot what happens when there's an uncaught third strike with 2 out and a runner on first. In other words the catcher just picked up the ball and watched as the batter and runner each advanced a base.

Thank you for catching me making a significant brain fart. I'm hoping there aren't too many other exceptions. If there are, the original idea I presented wasn't my own creation anyway, so I'm using that as an cop out.

"Generalizations" are supposed to be simple. An "over-complicated generalization" is an oxymoron.
