New Wilson Mask

It's flattness will absorb, rather than deflect the ball, much like my old SUL.

No thanks. Better vision, but more concussions. Not a good tradeoff for me.

complete WOBW

...but i will say that i dont like this mask. im looking to get a wilson, but one of the non-"new-view" models. i find this model funny because its not new -- i had a rawlings mask that was flat like this almost 10 years ago.

I've used this mask for the last few years and have had no problems with it. I've gotten hit square in the mask in D-1 games, and both the mask and I have survived with no damage.

I can identify with your position. I defended my plus pos zero gravity mask for nearly three season against mounting criticism and evidence of damage. I had taken hits and saw no damage.

Finally, I took two hits to the same spot in an upper level game and the mask caved in.

I bought one of the "new" Wilsons, and again, I've had no personal issues, however, the reports of increased concussions from the MiLB umpires and the terrible angle of the throat guard has me looking for yet another.

Garth,

On all my masks of this type, I have one of those smaller style throat guards attached as added protection. I've gotten hit there pretty good a few times, and I can say that without that throat guard I stuck on it, I'd have been in serious trouble!

I have had to add a "dangler" for the first time ever, due to the Wilson's forward protruding throat guard.

I have a short neck and my chest protector meets the built in throat guards on my old plus Pos and West Vest masks. There was never even room for a ball to come up from underneath with those masks. The Wilson is a different story.

And, I do have first hand experience with the need to protect one's throat. About five years ago, I had to borrow a mask to work a game. It had a very small throat guard and no dangler. I took a foul to the Adam's apple and spit blood for the rest of the game. I went to the emergency room after the game and was told that I was very lucking to not have suffered permanent damage. I had the world's worst sore throat for about two weeks.

Just reading that made my throat ache!

many people have managed to find this mask on their own in the last year or more.
if you are going to make a thread, try and have some substance, not just a link to a known product.

When you disagree and tell boyinblue he is wrong, he will talk to you in whatever manner he wants. He is, after all, 100% correct in every situation. Coaches are just lucky to have such a bright teenager working their machine pitch games and can learn from his insights.

I think this forum ought to have a minimum age requirement to post. That might take care of you-know-who. ;)
