Plate - +POS

Base - I've worn the same pair of Puma Scramblers since I got them at umpire school in 1985 UNTIL this year...they're being relegated to the bad-weather games in favor of New Balance 350's with all-black (how do you polish the ones with the white "N"?).

Sigh...those Pumas were the BEST base shoes EVER...RIP...

the N is made of something plastic-like, so polish doesn't even stick on it. i don't even make an effort to go around the N, since anything that rubs on it just rubs right off.

I was wanting to wear the NB plate shoes this year but I was recently told by my booking agent (and confirmed via email from the state office) that no white or off-white lettering is acceptable on umpire shoes in NCHSAA games. This is a change from prior years and will affect my decision on which plate shoes to wear this year.

NCUMP7 and DG- Have you guys heard about this yet?

A Sharpie will allow you purchase any shoe you wish. I'm sorry you work for such a bumpkin outfit, but there's always a workaround.

It was not discussed at first association meeting yesterday. We did discuss the new hat with NCHSAA on it. It is not mandatory because they did not want to mandate umpires to have to buy a new hat (grin). If they mandated no white on shoes more than half the guys I know would have to buy new base shoes. I have not seen anyone yet with NB plate shoes. There is nothing on the NCHSAA website about it so I think unless my assignor mentions it, it don't exist because I don't go to state meetings, he does.

Sorry, not a fan of the PM option. It's a big security hole.

I'm not with the County, but sometimes work for the North County Umpires Association. But you can usually find me at the Rancho Buena Vista fields.

I worked at RBV quite often years ago, long before they split the city at Mira Mesa. The last time I worked a game at RBV was when Dave Roberts played there. Used to do a lot of Rancho Bernardo games for ol' Sam Blaylock, too.

That had to be what, 88 or 89?

Go longhorns.

Both 88 and 89. But, now that I think about it, I last worked there in 90. 87 through 90 I spent a lot of time working North County games, especially Vista, Torrey Pines, and Poway, with a smattering of RBV, RB, and San Marcos. But you know me, I would travel anywhere for a ballgame.

Edited to add: Roberts graduated in 1990, that's why I don't remember doing their (home) games after that.

Plate = Gerry Davis
Base = New Balance, isn't the N actually gray?

Tee, an alpha test shoe? Do they have jets or something on them?
Kyle, rotating those shoes around must hurt something awful....
