Now you've done it. The whining should start any time now.

1. Plate shoes = Honigs high tops, although I am seriously considering getting a pair of Tanel 360's this year based on what I have heard about them.
2. Base shoes = New Balance, white N on them.

I would whine, but I already did that on a previous thread of this nature.:)

Delaware Blue Sun Jan 28, 2007 11:57am

Plate shoe - Tanel360 - no white

Base shoe - Reebok Vero Turf - no white

bossman72 Sun Jan 28, 2007 12:00pm

Plate- Tanel 360

Base- Spot-built

No white on either. These are both highly recccommended shoes.

kylejt Sun Jan 28, 2007 12:50pm

Plate shoes: GD patent leather low tops, +POS low tops. White logo on the +POS.

Base shoes: Puma mesh for hot weather, Reebok leather for most of the time, and Nike Tiger Woods water resistant golf shoes for nasty conditions. The Puma's have a white stripe on them.

White logos don't bother me. I like to rotate my shoes around because I work a lot of games.

tiger49 Sun Jan 28, 2007 01:12pm

Plate Shoes= Honigs K90 (All black)

Base Shoes= Under Armour Bomber Trainers (Some White)
Nike Shox Trainers (All Black)

etn_ump Sun Jan 28, 2007 03:05pm

Plus POS and New Balance plate shoes. White on both.

New Balance field shoes, white N.

Why? Nike shoes are terrible unless you have D or narrower feet.

phillips.alex Sun Jan 28, 2007 04:35pm

plate shoes= nike pro plate (i got them on ebay, so i have no clue if the public can buy them in stores)

base shoes= reebok atr pro's for dry
or nike fg 90 turf pro's (yes, they are soccer turf shoes) for wet

they're all black, and all amazing. I have narrow feet, however

briancurtin Sun Jan 28, 2007 05:15pm

new balance for both, and each has a white N on the side

i like my base shoes with the white N, but i dont think i like the plate shoes having the white N so i might do something about that

MajorDave Sun Jan 28, 2007 08:17pm

Gerry Davis high top plate shoes-no white.

Spot-Bilt original coach shoes for bases-no white (I even cut off the spot bilt tag on the flap.)
Adidas Mundial Team Soccer turf shoes with white stripes for bad weather conditions on Bases.
Puma Ultra Trainer turf/coach shoes with white stripes for really bad weather JV/Frosh/Middle School base duty.

ncump7 Sun Jan 28, 2007 09:14pm

Plate..Gerry Davis high tops..all black

Field..New Balance low..white N

JJ Sun Jan 28, 2007 09:43pm

Plate - +POS

Base - I've worn the same pair of Puma Scramblers since I got them at umpire school in 1985 UNTIL this year...they're being relegated to the bad-weather games in favor of New Balance 350's with all-black (how do you polish the ones with the white "N"?).

Sigh...those Pumas were the BEST base shoes EVER...RIP...

the N is made of something plastic-like, so polish doesn't even stick on it. i don't even make an effort to go around the N, since anything that rubs on it just rubs right off.

I was wanting to wear the NB plate shoes this year but I was recently told by my booking agent (and confirmed via email from the state office) that no white or off-white lettering is acceptable on umpire shoes in NCHSAA games. This is a change from prior years and will affect my decision on which plate shoes to wear this year.

NCUMP7 and DG- Have you guys heard about this yet?

A Sharpie will allow you purchase any shoe you wish. I'm sorry you work for such a bumpkin outfit, but there's always a workaround.

It was not discussed at first association meeting yesterday. We did discuss the new hat with NCHSAA on it. It is not mandatory because they did not want to mandate umpires to have to buy a new hat (grin). If they mandated no white on shoes more than half the guys I know would have to buy new base shoes. I have not seen anyone yet with NB plate shoes. There is nothing on the NCHSAA website about it so I think unless my assignor mentions it, it don't exist because I don't go to state meetings, he does.

Sorry, not a fan of the PM option. It's a big security hole.

I'm not with the County, but sometimes work for the North County Umpires Association. But you can usually find me at the Rancho Buena Vista fields.

I worked at RBV quite often years ago, long before they split the city at Mira Mesa. The last time I worked a game at RBV was when Dave Roberts played there. Used to do a lot of Rancho Bernardo games for ol' Sam Blaylock, too.

That had to be what, 88 or 89?

Go longhorns.

Both 88 and 89. But, now that I think about it, I last worked there in 90. 87 through 90 I spent a lot of time working North County games, especially Vista, Torrey Pines, and Poway, with a smattering of RBV, RB, and San Marcos. But you know me, I would travel anywhere for a ballgame.

Edited to add: Roberts graduated in 1990, that's why I don't remember doing their (home) games after that.

RPatrino Tue Jan 30, 2007 02:13am

Plate = Gerry Davis
Base = New Balance, isn't the N actually gray?

Tee, an alpha test shoe? Do they have jets or something on them?
Kyle, rotating those shoes around must hurt something awful....
