Heres one for ya guys that will get some laughs, when you say "strike", whats it sound like? :D Ive heard all kinds of stuff, when I say strike, it ends up being "he-hike". whats yours sound like :p

aceholleran Fri Aug 18, 2006 01:23am

I do believe I tend to say "hike."

SanDiegoSteve Fri Aug 18, 2006 02:22am

Hah!!! (very loud, short, and crisp)

BoomerSooner Fri Aug 18, 2006 04:01am

Mine comes out more like "two more" followed by "last chance", and finally "no soup for you".

mcrowder Fri Aug 18, 2006 08:13am

Haaahhhh!!!!!!! for a called strike.
Short "Heek" for swinging

Tim C Fri Aug 18, 2006 08:22am

Mmmm,

"Short "Heek" for swinging"

Huh!

You verbalize swinging strikes?

Regards,

Boomer, you're killing me here........where is your next stop on the Comedy tour?

ctblu40 Fri Aug 18, 2006 09:52am

I think (after having the people sitting net to me right now jump out of their seats) mine sounds like, "Hee!"
For called third stike it sounds like "Heek Hee!"

Both are crisp, loud and short.

BTW- I never verbalize a swinging strike, tends to pi$$ off the batters, I think.

Justme Fri Aug 18, 2006 10:00am

Mine is a simple "STRI EKE", sometimes as I get tired "STRI HEKE"

bossman72 Fri Aug 18, 2006 11:03am

"Hike!" on strikes 1 and 2.

"Three!" on strike 3.

rookieblue Fri Aug 18, 2006 11:35am

bossman,

I like - crisp, short, not overly dramatic. Being new to this, I'm still prone to a bit of scenery chewing, so anything to tone done (where appropriate) can only improve my games. Thank you.

STRIKE !

It used to be HIKE when I wore a mask (couldn't get the STR out), but then I switched to a helmet, and magically, I could pronounce S's again ! (no pressure on your chin)

OMG. And I thought you couldn't more ridiculous about the mask/helmet thing than you already had. Onced again, I've been proven wrong.

but the finniest part i find is, no matter hwo you say it, everyone still knows what you are calling :) I have the same problem when i wear my regular mask, i cant quite say strike, but when i use my hockey mask i can say it,,,

rookieblue Fri Aug 18, 2006 12:20pm

GarthB - :D

In point of fact, I can and do say "STRIKE" quite intelligibly with a conventional mask on.

I was watching the local broadcast of the Orioles' oh-so-sweet (for its rarity) pasting of the Yankees yesterday. Late in the game, C.B. Bucknor took a foul squarely in the face of his HSM, a blow which dropped him to his knees. Color man Buck Martinez gave a fairly lengthy dissertation on why - for that type of blow - the conventional mask distributes the impact better than the HSM. I will not comment further on Mr. Martinez's appreciation of either human skeletal anatomy, or physics. I am happy to report, Mr. Bucknor was fine and completed the game with no ill effects evident.
