2nd trip by coach

american league rules semi-pro game.
coach makes 2nd trip in same inning to the same pitcher. at this point he brings in a new pitcher and sends the pitcher to centerfield. is this legal?
i thought that in this situation the pitcher must be removed from the game, not just the mound. any difference between national and american leagues?

does american legion have a specific rule that deals with this?
