Sitch: Keeping book for my son's LL team playing a tournament. Many team players and the manager and head coach out of town, but we did manage to field a team. The substitute manager 'allowed' other parents to 'help' with the dugout. During the regular season, the coaches do get away with standing post just outside the dugout, however during tournaments, this is legitamately frowned upon by the umpires.
One of the dads 'helping' was obnoxious enough to regularly 'stray from his post' towards the field and really had little to say with truly helping the team. I warned the dad about his wanderings, and also the substitute manager about his 'overstaffing' but neither caught on. So a few pitches later, after not being able to stomach it anymore, I give up my post at the dugout door and headed into the opposite end of the dugout where I joined the other coach, leaving the manager at third base, and the two extra coaches outside the dugout. Finally, between innings, the substitute manager was told to cut two of his coaches from the field. Thankyou Blue! (I actually think the two umpires 'conferenced' between innings to sort out who they thought the real coaches were, and having the two extra coaches outside the dugout made it easier to remove them from the game.)
Also had kids playing positions they never played before, particularly our first baseman, which nearly resulted in a wreck on at least one play. Shortly thereafter, the umpire at first was showing our first baseman how to properly take the throw without srepping ON the bag.
I clearly thanked the umpire for his act of kindness at first base between pitches, but I never did get to thank them for removing the extras from the field.
