F2 delays game

While I'm at it, would like your opinions on this one, not spelled out in any rule book I can find.

Yes, this happens most often in LL, but I've seen it at frosh and JV levels, too.

After a pitch, R2 or R3 jumps to a big lead, daring F2 to throw him out. F2 decides one of these three:

a) Run at the runner
b) Make 435 fakes at the runner
c) Walk the ball back to F1

I say all of this delays the game. I once had (b) so glaringly that I warned the offense that I would eject F2 for delaying the game, which led to a major sh&tter (but no EJ). I maintain such an ejection is warranted, but how do warn/cajole/wheedle/eject/move the friggin' game along?

Your thoughts and experiences appreciated.

Why did you warn the offense?

I know, a mental lapse, but I wanted to punch you before SDS. ;)

it's just attrocious baseball....but not much you can do

My son is 12 and plays in such games. The runner goes 15 feet, dances around a bit, the catcher fakes a bunch of times, eventually throws the ball back to the pitcher (or, at times, roughly into the woods). It's nauseating....and is best cleared up by knowledgeable coaches who say things like "Throw the ball back to the pitcher".

I used to give them a few seconds to play this bush game, then it was, "TIME. Runner back to your base. Catcher get the ball back to the pitcher. Let's play baseball."

Unless you get paid by the hour.

call a delay of game penalty. pitcher moves up 5 yards, repeat the count.

Between innings, I call each manager and ask for help.
They will fix it.

If, by chance, the managers do not respond, then I can only watch.

My question is - who is really delaying the game? Is it the catcher trying to get the runner back to the bag or is it the runner dancing and juking around? If there is no dancing, then there would be no delay.

IMHO: Runner has every right to juke here; he is putting himself at risk of being put out, no?

BTW: I told catcher to make a play on the runner or get the rock back to F1.

That'll work until the catcher throws the ball into centerfield because "the ump told me to...." :)

Ther's really not much you can you can do with this. Talk to both skippers, they'll probably help. If not, when it's obvious that the reunner is no longer trying to advance, call "TIME," very loudly. It should stop after that.
