Man on 2nd trying to steal & B1 interferes wth F2 throw. What is the call?
Also.. man on 3rd 2 out, wild pitch & as pitcher is covering home, B1 interferes with the throw.(he is standing in the batter's box) What's the call? i am a LL ump. Thanks |

In example a if F2 catches the ball then the batter standing in the box isn't interference. If in the same case he steps back or does something obvious then he is out and the runner returns. All this assumes the out wasn't made at the base.
If the ball wasn't fielded cleanly then the batter is required to clear whatever space F2 needs to make a play. In either situation the batter is out and the runner returns. In example b the batter is out, no run. If less than two outs the runner would be out which wasn't the case here. |

F2 catching the pitch has nothing to do with the continuous action, i.e. Throwing the ball. Since R.G. said it was interference I have to assume it was interference. In that case the batter is out for interference and the runner returns. In the second play, I would have the batter out and the inning is over. However if there were less than two outs, the runner would be out and the batter would still be up. Aren't these rules simple? Chuckle. G. |

My point was clarify if there was interference or not. If the catcher catches it then the batter doesn't have to clear. 6.06c
If he doesn't catch it and has to retreive it then the batter does according to 7.09L. If the interference is there then what you say is correct. |

I see what you are saying. It seems to me that the original post said that the catcher was throwing the ball 6.06(c) and not fielding the ball 7.09(L). Even if the catcher dropped the ball he apparently secured it to make the throw and during the throw the interference occurred, again I have 6.06(c). G. [Edited by Gee on Aug 2nd, 2001 at 08:40 PM] |
