Tom Hallion has been a MLB umpire for a long time, and I think he is a damn good umpire. I used to really like his scissors stance, but he works the slot heel toe now. I still have the 1989 Umpire Card set, which includes a young Tom Hallion.

Lance has been a MiLB umpire for 14 years, this was his 15th. He is very deserving of the position. Other than being a great umpire, his character is outstanding. Probably the best "person" in MiLB. It is nice to see good things happen to good people.

1) Lance has got the job.
2) Don't talk about calls at the big league level, "even I am not good enough." I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, "no, you're not good enough." Big leaguers make mistakes, yes, but no, we're not good enough.

....

I was told by an MiLB umpire that Craft was retiring effective July 1. He was basically offered a buyout given he has been injured off and on for the past several years.

Why did Lance get the job? He's a very good umpire and I was shocked he didn't get one of the jobs that Iassogna or Wolf got....but I thought Bob Davidson was supposed to get the first one? Luckily, he's not, and I'm happy for Lance, but does anyone have info on that deal?

Then why wouldn't Barksdale be working on Scott's crew right now? Davidson has done the majority of the work in Craft's spot up to this point.

I forget in what order, but I believe Hallion, Davidson, and Hickox were outlined to get jobs 1, 3, and 5 when they were re-hired.

Yes, I still have the complete set. I got them back when I was much less jaded and was still thrilled to be an umpire.

I'm not certain they still make them, as I haven't tried finding any since then.

Amazing.

...so, can you 'battle' with them like Pokemon cards? Or trade, say, one Crawford for six Bucknors?

Eww why would you do that deal?

I'd rather play Go Fish..."Do you have a crew chief who wears a number in the 30s?"

If you had four sets of them, you could play uno.
One set with them in Powder, one set in black, one set in jackets, and one set from a few years back with the silver shirts.
I am not going to attempt to make up "umpire uno" rules, I will leave that to you guys...

For those of you wondering why Davidson was still with Dale Scott's crew, he's not. Lance joined the crew tonight for the Rangers-Orioles series, presumably for good.
