By the way, Happy Memorial Day

For those of you who read this tonight, I know it's late.

Remember all veterans today, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Well said.

Even though I'm Canadian, I know my neighbours south of the border helped in retaining my freedom.

Happy Memorial Day. For those that died standing up for freedom, rest in peace.

Although I am a proud veteran of the Armed Forces, today is all about those who gave their lives for our American way of life, the finest life available on the planet. God bless the USA.

Thumbs up

BlueLawyer,

Nice post.

I had already posted the following on a different board, so I'll just cut and paste it here.

I have three children, and I worry sometimes that they have the proper appreciation for what a wonderful country they live in, and the sacrifices of so many that have made it possible.

I have taken to using the national holidays as occasions for teaching them. I was having a discussion with my 6th grade daughter earlier today about the purpose of Memorial Day. I was pleased that she knew. I asked her to write a poem.

As a small token of gratitude and respect for all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of their country and countrymen, as well as those who have also sacrificed much in service of their country (and continue to do so), I thought I would share what she wrote with all of you.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is coming
So go put up your flag
To show you love your country
And all those from it who have
Died for you, died for me
Died so that we can be free
Made this world a better place

And though they can’t see the look on our face
A look of Gratitude, a look of hope
A look that tells them we’ll try to cope
With not having them near
Or even having them here
Because they didn't survive
On earth, alive
But only in our hearts and minds

And don’t forget...

Memorial Day is coming
So go put up your flag

I just went out and put up my flag - I'd forgotten to.

Thanks, Coach

And tell your daughter that she made a veteran in a far away place shed a tear, and grin today.

Well done.
