3-man mechanics

Okay, I admit, I haven't worked a 3-man system in many years. If fact, the last time I think I did, I was pretty green. Now years later, I'm in a situation where I have to work a 3 man system on Saturday. To better prepare myself, I've done some internet searches for a refresher on the basic mechanics.

Most of it seems pretty logical, but I've never before noticed that the "inside' official stays behind the infielders. Is this something new? Something wrong (the information I got may be bad)? Or did I just miss it "back in the day?"
