Just saw the most horrible call
Padres at Braves, 1 out bases empty, Adam La Roache of Braves batting, tries to check his swing but can't, strike three, ball gets away from Padres F2 Doug Mirabelli, Mirabelli kicks it again, meanwhile La Roache is almost to 1st, Mirabelli finally gets the handle, throws to first.
I make the call watching on TV....safe! It was not even close, a full step past the base, but the first base umpire (I believe it was Brian O'Nora) banged La Roache out anyway. Cox came out to argue, called the umpire something, and got tossed! Brutal call. Yet it was not a "scab" umpire. It was made by a professional. Imagine that. I guess they are human too.
