Warnings for behavior

Before a Legion game, we (Partner, Coaches) decided we didn't need a plate meeting. Been on the field before. Teams have played before.

A visiting player aggravated me in the third inning, and I told him, "Yer gone."
Player says, "You're Kidding, right?"
I just replied, "Yer gone."
He walks off mumbling, "...and he never gave me a warning."

His manager walks on the field and says, "That's my only pitcher and you didn't give him a warning."
I said, "... a warning for what?" (And that was that.)

I shared this with fellow umps last night; they started giving me "da bidness", and they said they always give warnings at the plate meeting. (I knew they do that.) I asked, "Why?". No answer, maybe they said, "Cuz."
One then said, "...so they know what to expect."
I asked, "If they get me again, don't you think they'll know what to expect?"

This was my 2nd ever ejection of a player, I've never had a Coach go away. I never mention "warnings" during the plate meetings, because I think it is unnecessary to go over any rules generally, or specifically, unless I am asked.
I do give warnings, during the game, if warranted, for all kinds of stuff, but I never give a generic warning that I feel is not thought out and too vague by nature.

Other than a couple of comments from the ejected player that I ump as bad as I ref Hoops, there was no big deal after that.

4 innings later, the team without another pitcher, walked off winning 6-3, or so.

Even if everyone's been on the field before, pre-game is mandatory. Confirm ground rules remain the same, and exchange line-ups.

The only time I issued a warning at a pre-game was bout 30 years ago. The league assignor asked me to work (1-man) a LL Majors game where the managers and coaches were giving umps a bad time. At the pre-game, after going over all the particulars I issued a warning to both sides. "Gentlemen, the boys are here to play ball. The parents, grandparents and everyone else are here to watch them. No one is here to watch you have tantrums. The rule book says I have to warn you before I eject you, but it doesn't say when. This is your warning". I had no problems in that game, or any others in that league.

I tell ya mick, I'm not thinken I'd be too pleased if I where in a coaches shoes and got warned about doing something wrong before I even done it.

Now then if there was bad blood between the teams and fear of the bean ball,or like Bob said. That being your the "Hired Gun", that's a horse of a different color.

In FED we do a "Sportsmanship" speal but as a general rule it's not a warning.

was this a big aggravation or small one. Some rules
require one warning before the axe, tho I believe that
most are in FED., and LL.

It was a small aggravation.
The player was sent home from 2B and was dead by two steps.
The player sat on the path straight-legged, still a foot from the plate and grabbed the bat from that sitting postion and smashed the plate with an inordinate amount of force. He didn't say a word; he obviously did it to be noticed. I noticed.
I don't think he was mad at my call. But maybe ... at his 3B coach, I dunno.
It was a childish display for a testosterone-laden lad, and like I said, it aggravated me.
Maybe, 9.01(d) ...unsportsmanlike conduct....
