i almost always throw back to the pitcher. two reasons:

1) saves time....i dont' want to wait till the catcher can find a passed ball

2)allows me to control the game

these are not necessarily great reasons, but after doing HS and college intramurals, i have found that being in control of your game is one of the most important parts of officiating.

Control the game???

How does throwing the ball back to the pitcher help you control the game?

Hahahaha,

" . . . 2)allows me to control the game. . . "

This ties for the dumbest post ever made on the internet.

My gawd Luke, I think this is "TheUmp" from ABUA fame.

Adding the "flow of the game part" doesn't make your statement any better. It still makes no sense at all.

Your choice is to either:

1) Hand the ball to the catcher
2) Throw it to the pitcher

Now how does the flow of the game change if you go with 1 or 2?

that makes no more sense than what you said before. throwing the ball is throwing the ball.

In HS and college, the responsibility for chasing down the passed ball (with no runners on) or the foul ball that hits the screen belongs to the on-deck hitter or the batboy.
