No outs, no one on base. Batter swings at a ball in the dirt for strike three. The ball bounces off the catcher and rolls up the first baseline. As the batter-runner runs towards first he kicks the ball while outside of the batters box. Is there a call? Please e-mail me at [email protected]

Thanks.

Mike,
Unless the batter's actions are intentional, there is no interference on this play - regardless if the ball, on the dropped third strike or "third strike not caught," hits the batter inside or outside of the box.

Don't take the shi##y end of the stick on this one. If the catcher catches the ball (or better yet, if the pitcher throws the pitch 60 feet, 6 inches) we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I know this play is mentioned as an Approved Ruling in the college rule book but I'm just too lazy to look it up. Hope this helps.
